This video consists of the following:
1. Meaning and concept of plant layout:
Plant layout
is a “technique of locating different machines and plant services within the
factory so that the greatest possible output of high quality at the lowest
possible total cost can be available”.
It signifies the arrangement of
machines work areas material handling equipment’s transport and storing of
different materials products tools and fixtures etc. Proper plant layout is one
of the keys of success in factory management. The layouts for the same product
may be numerous but which costs less in the long run is the best.
Since plant layout is responsible
for an orderly flow of materials productivity and morale of the workers it is
necessary to have systematic layout planning. This has become all the more
necessary with the increasing costs of the land labour and building materials.
2.
Objectives of good plant layout:
i.
To maximize production at minimum cost.
ii.
To use maximum volume available.
iii.
To minimize the waiting time of semi finished products.
iv.
To assure safer and better working conditions (well ventilated
rooms etc.)
v.
To minimize and control material handling and transportation cost.
vi.
To minimize the movement made by workers.
vii.
To make plant maintenance simpler.
viii.
To reduce capital cost and increase productivity and assure better
product quality.
ix.
To boost employees’ morale by providing them comfort and
satisfaction.
